| As var. torulosa, but... Thallus to 6 cm tall; branches 0.5–1.0 mm wide; apices tapered, slender, not blackened. Isidia sparse or eroded from pseudocyphellae, small, not black-tipped; pseudocyphellae round, well defined, often ±globose, evenly spaced along branches. CHEMISTRY: Cortex containing usnic acid. Medulla K–; containing barbatic acid (major), 4-O-demethylbarbatic acid (trace) and ±squamatic acid. | ||
| This variety grows on dolerite, quartzite and granite rocks. It is rare in the mountains of south-eastern N.S.W., A.C.T. and Vic., but common in central and eastern Tas. Also in New Zealand. | ||
